Betsy's BBQ Sauce
INGREDIENTS
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 diced sweet onions
1-2 Tbsp crushed red pepper flakes (depends on how spicy you want it)
3 cups ketchup
12 oz chili sauce
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup Dijon mustard
1/3 cup dark molasses
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp liquid smoke
INSTRUCTIONS
In a large sauce pan over medium-low heat, sauteé onions and crushed red pepper flakes in olive oil until onions are very soft. About 10-15 minutes.
Add remaining ingredients and simmer over low heat until reduced by 1/3. About 2-3 hours.
Stir often to prevent bottom from scorching.
Keeps in the refrigerator for several months or forever in the freezer.
